When we are asked to name the basic necessities of life, our cliched answer is
food, water, housing and similar things. In this Hi-tech world however, there are
many other things that are equally commensurate. Like cellphone, television, car,
etc. Ever wondered how they work? Apart from money, electricity and fuel,
Global Positioning Systems GPS also helps them to run.
GPS is a positioning tool which works from the backend. Now-a-days it is equally
serves the scientific as well as commercial needs.
Developed in 1973 by the Defense Department of United States, Global
Positioning System was previously used to determine the location of military
vehicles worldwide. With the advancements and development in every field, GPS is
now used in cars, boats, planes, construction equipments, cellphones, and
serves a boon in the scientific group. It is a device mainly used to know the user's
exact position anywhere under the sun. The satellites are placed in the space with
the help of vehicles like the Arianne Rocket or the Space Shuttle. With the help of
Global Positioning System, each satellite is placed in the orbit
at some predefined location (a set longitude, latitude and altitude of the point).
GPS antennas are fixed in cars, television antennas, radio frequency modulation
is defined by the satellites in the space.
